Lillian has been involved in body movement from an early age dancing freely around her living room and cart wheeling instead of walking wherever she went. She began studying ballet at the age of 10, eventually becoming a professional dancer who quickly rose through the ranks to soloist and then principle dancer.

She performed with the Royal Winnipeg Ballet, Les Grandes Ballet Canadiens, Alberta Ballet Co. and the Indianapolis Ballet Theater in such roles as Swanhilda in Coppelia, Sugar Plum Fairy in Nutcracker, Cinderella, and the lead in Balanchine's Allegro Brilliant. These are just a few of the principle roles she performed during her career as a professional dancer.

Teaching has been her passion since she retired from the stage.  Because of her own experience with injuries as a dancer, Lillian’s quest for other methodologies to improve strength and flexibility and enhance her teaching has been an ongoing pursuit.

She studied at the National Ballet School summer teacher program several years to learn special movement sequences developed specifically for dancers by New York City based, neuromuscular trainer, Irene Dowd. Incorporating these into her teaching has greatly helped her students.

In 2008 she was introduced to the GYROTONIC EXPANSION SYSTEM® and immediately recognized the value in it for all walks of life.  After taking classes for several months, Lillian wanted to add it to her teaching skills. While going through the certification training courses, she was also preparing to have hip resurfacing surgery by renowned orthopedic surgeon Dr. John S. Rogerson.

“The most remarkable thing was that after being in excruciating pain for a year, I was no longer in agony because of the relief I got from the Gyrotonic exercises.  While the surgery was still a medical necessity in order to heal, I know that the exercises prior to surgery provided substantial easing of the pain I had been experiencing on a daily basis.”

This confirmed for Lillian how truly amazing this system is.  Post surgery presented yet another opportunity to prove the value of this unique method of exercising for rehabilitation purposes.

“After going through all the usual physical therapy, it was only after I began working out on the Pulley Tower that my full recovery happened. It took me to the next level of healing and strength building.”

I am very happy to have the first studio in Madison offering Gyrotonic exercise and look forward to sharing this wonderful work with many others.
